About Bloom

What is the role that software can play in human connection? Is there a role for software to play at all? We believe the answer is yes.

Bloom is a sex positive community that meets around events. Bloom exists to help people build meaningful relationships and strengthen community. Our vision is a world in which all people feel safety and belonging.

In May 2021, Bloom started offering event organizers the ability to help their attendees connect before and after their events with our consent-based, mutual-opt in approach. We started in alternative communities at the bleeding edge of Bay Area culture, and soon became the new online home for queer-centered, sex-positive, and connection-forward events and communities. To date, our members have found new best friendships and partners through Bloom, and use Bloom to find out what's going on this weekend and meet people who are going.

Bloom collaborates with local event organizers to help build community around their events. Bloom collaborations have increased event turnout by 2.25x (compared to Facebook RSVPs).

Bloom's company culture is best described as “chill, with focus.” We look at the trend line over the data points. We believe in life-work balance and we also commit to ambitious goals. We offer feedback generously, self-examine often, and aim to improve ourselves and our processes to achieve as much as we can. We believe in the possibility of change in the world and in ourselves.

The Bloom team is led by Lauren Vegter, who previously led User Acquisition at Instagram from 700M to past a billion users. You’ll be working alongside a world class team with experience from Facebook, Google, Oculus, Nest, multiple YCombinator-backed startups, and event production at the bleeding edge of the Bay Area underground arts scenes.

Open Roles

Software Engineer

Bay Area or Remote

Bloom is hiring a full-stack, frontend-leaning software engineer for part or full time.

We're creating a better way to meet new people around cool events, starting with the underground arts and events scene in the Bay Area. We're still a small team with two engineers, so there's a lot of opportunity for impact on the product and ownership.

We're looking for someone who loves figuring out hard and ambiguous problems and is excited about joining a wild startup adventure. Experience in React Native or React is required; most of the work will be in React Native (the rest of the code base is Typescript and Node, experience not required). This is an opportunity to join an early-stage YCombinator-backed startup and shape the future of the product and the company.

Candidates can live anywhere; our team works primarily on Pacific Time. This is a remote contract position with potential conversion to full-time (FTE). Candidates must be available to start immediately.

Event Partnerships Manager

Bay Area or New York City

Bloom is hiring an event partnerships role to establish collaborations with event producers, venues, artists, and community organizers. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, a high degree of empathy, and passion for community building. Events industry and/or partnerships experience are a bonus but not necessary.

You’d be one of Bloom's first dedicated Event Partnerships Managers and would work alongside the CEO & founder to shape our partnerships and product strategy. This is a part-time contract position, with potential conversion to full-time.
